What is the minimum number of pieces I have to mail to receive a presort discount?

For presort First-Class Mail, you must have at least 500 pieces to qualify for any postage discounts. For presort Standard Mail, you must have at least 200 pieces to qualify.

Do I need to have a postal permit to mail my material?

No, having a mailing permit is not a requirement. If you don't have one, you can use Pittsburgh Mailing's permit. Pittsburgh Mailing will even image the indicia for you. Postage payment is required, however, before the material mails.

How much will my postage cost?

Many factors determine the actual cost of postage. Pittsburgh Mailing can provide an estimated postage amount as soon as your mailing list is received, but exact postage can't be provided until your mailing list is run through the presort process. The more saturated your mailing list is (meaning the more pieces that are mailed within the same area or region), the more discount you will receive on postage.

Since postage is required prior to mailing, you will be alerted to the actual postage amount a day or two before your material mails.

How long will it take for my project to be ready for mailing?

It depends on the complexity of your project. Typically, from the time Pittsburgh Mailing receives all components of the mailing, processing takes 3 to 5 business days.

It's best to discuss this with your representative and make sure he/she knows exactly what the job entails and what your expectations are. That helps to ensure that Pittsburgh Mailing allows adequate time to complete the project and gives you the quality you deserve.

How long will it take for my mail to be delivered?

If you choose to mail presort standard (including nonprofit), the Postal Service allows 7 to 14 business days for delivery. If you choose presort First-Class or straight First-Class, the USPS allows 3 to 5 business days for delivery. During peak direct-mail times (including the holiday season), delivery times may be longer.

Why does my list have to be processed through the National Change of Address (NCOALink)?

The USPS is stepping up its efforts to reduce the amount of undeliverable as addressed mail. Therefore, in order to receive discounted postage, all address lists must be updated within 95 days of the actual mailing date. The United States Postal Service has multiple ways (link to Postal Info>NCOA) to ensure this requirement has been met.

If you do not wish to have your mailing list run through NCOALink, the line "or current resident" must be added to the address block. This allows the mail piece to be delivered to the address regardless of who lives there.
